DISCOLORED WATER AT YOUR TAP?

While water in our distribution system has historically been non-chlorinated, Cedarhome Well water is being chlorinated to meet or exceed the Department of Health's stringent requirements, thus ensuring our customers will have a safe reliable potable water supply. The new Cedarhome Well, recently completed, has introduced the chlorination process into the City of Stanwood's water distribution system.

One of the main issues with introducing chlorine to a water system is the initial transition period.  During the startup period, residents may experience water quality issues, ranging from discolored water to unpleasant tastes and odors.  This is caused by the chlorine reacting with layers of particulates and sediment that have built up within the City's distribution system over many service years. Rest assured the water is routinely tested and even with these issues, the water meets or exceeds Department of Health stringent regulations for safe drinking water.

As the City takes these necessary steps to chlorinate the entire water system, our goal is to educate our customers on our progress and our efforts to resolve the associated issues during this transition period. There is no easy fix associated with the water quality issues that we are facing now.  It will take some time before the years of material and sediment work out of the water distribution system.  We are routinely flushing the City's water distribution system to help reduce the impacts of the chlorine that is being introduced into the system.

From time to time, our customers may experience a relapse of color and odor issues.  We encourage our customers to report these concerns to your Public Works Department at (360) 629-9781 so we can investigate and take steps to address the problems.
